Since most people in developing countries are agriculturalists living in rural areas, rural welfare should be of the greatest importance and attacks on ill health must go beyond providing treatment for those who come and ask for it. Administrative deficiencies make building more hospitals in developing countries a defeating task. Health centres and appropriate training of well-placed auxiliaries promise to work best. Examples from African countries are given. Selection of trainees and help for them on the job are two important considerations when planning rural services. Five references are listed. |
