| A simplified system of health services, allowing a total coverage of the population, has been proposed for the district of Candelaria, Colombia. The health services offered have a family and community focus, the three basic activities being prevention of illness, care of the sick, and rehabilitation. The primary health unit, or unit of education and information, relies on a health almanac with health messages for the whole family. a health card for each child under 5 years of age, and a health volunteer or promoter who visits homes every 2 months, educates the family through the health card and the health almanac, collects information on vital statistics, etc. Volunteers are supervised through the intermediate or service Unit by auxiliary nursing personnel. A physician and a nurse compose the supervisory and programming unit. Job descriptions for volunteers, auxiliaries, and physicians are provided. |
