Isi artikelThe following study is an empirical investigation of the effects of using a particular type of highly controlled, pseudo-communication activity in the foreign language classroom. It re-analyses and re-evaluates the data from an earlier study carried out with John Upshur, who reported some preliminary findings at the Eighth Annual TESOL Convention in Denver, Colorado in March, 1974. In the present paper, the data and sample materials are presented, a number of new hypotheses are formulated and tested, some new conclusions are reached, and some practical implications are discussed.
