Appropriate changes in teaching methods bring medical students into contact with patients early in their studies and provide experiences in community health centres and hospital departments. A pilot project implementing these suggestions was initiated near Jerusalem, Israel. Observations suggest that the objective and subjective status of the integrated physicians has risen and that the quality of health care has increased. It is suggested that this pattern of community health care be introduced in other countries through similar pilot projects. Nine references are listed.
