The rising incidence and prevalence of cardiovasculer disease (CVD) worldwide compels an equivalent increase in CVD prevention efforts. The currents standard of practice is to determine a patient's total cardiovascular risk by formal 10- years CVD risk scoring, and to recompute this score an a regular basis in order to assess progress in risk reduction. Substansial reductions in CVD risk may be achieved by means af focused, evidence-based interventions. The primary care physician must seek to established a strong partnership with his patient with the aim of encouraging adherence to recommended lifestyle changes and medication regimens. .....
