Isi artikel
Playing with a dolls’ house and dolls is a kind of game following certain rules where language is used in certain specific ways, i.e, you set the scene, plan a story and then act out a play, now acting as a story-teller, now playing the parts of the dolls, lending them your voice. This complicated linguistic task is not mastered by a child until somewhere between 3 and 4 years of age at the very earliest. Two 20 minutes long recordings of one boy at two different ages (2.6 and 3.4) playing with dolls together with an adult, have been analysed in this paper. Special attention has been paid to the boy’s growing communicative capacity and the role of the adult in developing this capacity in interaction with the child. The use of displaced speech in the two recordings is also discussed.
