This article is based on a study which explored the appropriateness of using STAD method for teaching science at primary schools. The STAD method combines learning in small groups and constructivist approach to learning. In traditional schools, teaching of science is based on knowledge imparted by teachers with no questions asked. In STAD approach students are encouraged to discover by themselves the basic concepts of science, in this particular study: heat. In the study, students in groups discussed the concepts of science, experiment, and shared ideas in a cooperative learning. In order to gain insight on the result of the study, the students were evaluated individuality and by group. In addition, teachers acted as facilitators, mediators, as well as expertise in a small group.
