The objective of this study is to gain the information on the application of teaching Natural Science (IPA) for the third year elementary school pupils, which involves teacher’s attitude toward the aim of teaching IPA based on 1994 curriculum, teacher’s ability in preparing the lesson plan and teacher’s teaching strategy to improve the pupil’s understanding. Qualitative and descriptive analysis were used in the research. Participant observation, interview and documents analysis were use to used collect data. Constant comparison was to analyze data of this study. The research was conducted at State (Public) Elementary School (SDN) 02 Pagi Makasar, Jakarta Timur in the year of 1998-1999. Based on the above findings, it is suggested that the condition of learning should be created optimally by the teacher before teaching in which the teacher should have a firm lesson plan.
