Isi artikelAdat (Tradition) is perceived as an all embracing term for the rule of behaviour and social institution that the society hold to be legitimated and right. It refers to local tradition, rules, and regulations, and institutional remnants from pre-islamic times. The objective of this analysis is o study the concept of education in Minangnese tradition. The method used is descriptive analysis. The religion of Islam which contains holistic ideas of education is easily accepted by the Minangnese people, because the Minangnese tradition principles are much in line with principles of Islam described as: (1) the educational foundation based on Al Haq, (2) the aim on education is achieving the happiness both in the world and in the hereafter, (3) the educational material is the universe and its systems, but must be in line with the preferebce and the doctrine of the God's (tauhid), (4) the educational methodology is freedom, democracy and plurality in the preference of God.
