The development of human resources in Indonesia could be enhanced through many ways, including distance education which utilize media. Many kinds of media are developed in distance education. One of them is telephone. However, in Indonesia, the use of telephone is still limited as individual communications, such as a media for consultation between students and teachesr. This article discusses action research results of the use of telephone for tutorial in distance education in Indonesia, especially in Faculty of Sciences and Politics, Universitas Terbuka (UT). The discussion emphasizes the use of telephone for communication between tutor and a group of students which were separated. The result of the research shows that students were supported by tutors even those who live in remote areas away from Jakarta, head office of UT.
