Isi artikel
Bennett-Kastor’s paper serves as a useful reminder that certain common standards of reporting within a given field of scientific study are crucial to the development and dissemination of knowledge within that discipline. She has very adequately enumerated several areas of divergence in the reporting of research on child language, and with the help of articles such as this to focus our attention, it should be a simple matter, through Journal Editors’ guidelines for example, to rectify these discrepancies. There will of course be areas of disagreement on what needs to be made explicit, one example perhaps being the need to take account of sex differences in language development. Given the still current assumption that girls’ linguistic abilities develop faster than do those of boys, it is something of a puzzle that so many studies do not even report the gender of their subjects, let alone look for sex differences.
