This study attempted to observe the effects of BAP (6-benzyl amino purine) cytokinin in MS 1/2 media on the growth and development of mangostan (Garcinia Mangostana, L.) type explant seed in in vitro culture. Two treatments of BAP, 5,0 mg/l and 2,5 mg/l, are applied. Nine degrees of type explant seed are also applied. There are (1) seed, (2) transverse division of seed by two at normal position, (3) transverse division of seed by two to the wound at the MS 1/2 media, (4) longitudinal division of seed by two at normal position, (5) longitudinal division by two the wound at the MS 1/2 media, (6) transverse division of seed by three to the wound at the MS 1/2 media, (8) longitudinal division by four at normal position, (9) longitudial division by four to the wound at the MS 1/2 media. The observation is performed to time of raise nodules and raise callus, member of leaves, number of axillary buds and adventive buds, number of roots, predeterminant polarity of buds, and apical dominance. The result showed that the introduction of 5,0 mg/l BAP affected the growth of the axillary buds and the number of adventive buds, and the introduction of 2,5 mg/l BAP affected the number of roots. The type explant seed in a longitudinal division by two to the wound at the MS 1/2 media produced more numbers of axillary buds, and the type explant seed in a longitudinal division by two at normal position produced more numbers of adventive buds.
