Soils of Arid regions is developing to enlarge agriculture land, to eliminate the scarcity of agriculture land that has been used up to another function. The lack of the soils of Arid is that it has high salt concentration. The conditions makes crops can not grow optimum. One of the efferts to optimum the use of soils of Arid is select the crops which can adjust to salt condition. Hardening a treatment to spinach, for instance at the beginning of the growth, increase the spinach tolerance to the high concentration of salts in soils. The research has been carried out in four months in Bogor Horticulture Estate. The use of salt solution (NaCl), in two steps. The first step is conducted in the seedling, in for six levels concentration: 200 ppm, 400ppm, 600ppm, 800ppm, 1000ppm, and control. The second step is conducted after the spinach have been transplanted into the polibag, than all the spinach dissolved salt solution in 6000ppm. However, hardening treatment on the spinach did not indicate significant effect on the height, the roots length, the weight of dry matter . Hardening treatment in the beginning growth, is the result of the process the adaption of spinach to handle stress in the polibag.
