This study compared the effect of three seed storage techniques on the productivity of longbean. The techniques are coating with parafin oil, coconut oil, and both kerosene and coconut oil. Storing bean with vegetable oil is commongly done by farmers to avoid bean damage due to pod borer (Callosobrachus maculatus, L), so that the seed could be used for planting in the next season. Hewindati et al (1995), reported that seed of longbean which had been coated with paraffin oil seemed to be less damage than those treated with coconut oil or with the mix of paraffin and coconut oil (percentage of damaged seeds were 3,6%, 22,1% and 11,3%). This study indicated that the storage technique had significant effect on the plant growth, in term of height and number of leaves in the field. Seeds that were treated with paraffin oil produced more flowers (10-24%) over non-treated seeds (check plot). However, oil treatment on the seeds did not indicate significant effect on the size of frech longbean, the weight of dry matter of bean, and the concentration of N of the seed.
