Isi artikelThe article deals with the scholarly publications produced by Prof. Dr. Willem Frederik Wertheim, a Dutch sociologist who has devoted much attention to the study of the history and society of the Indonesian people. It endeavors to present the relevant information through a description of his life history which started with his birth in St. Petersburg, Russia; and covers his secondary school education and subsequently higher education at the university of Leiden, The Netherlands; an assistantship to the judge of the judiciary court at Teluk Betung, South Sumatera; an official position at the Departement of Justice of the colonial Government of the Netherlands-Indies; a Proffesorship (Conflict of Law) at the College of Law, Batavia (now: Jakarta); detention in a Japanesse concentration camp during World War II; a Professorship (Sociology of Indonesia, later on: History and Sociology Southeast Asia) at the University of Amsterdam; and his final retirement at Wageningen. Among his many historical and sociological publications the most important is probably Indonesian Society in Transition. Unfortunetely, his publications on Indonesia written after the aborted Communist coup in 1966 tends to be very ideologically influenced and therefore tends to be very partial in support of the Leftist cause.
