The main objective of this research was to compare and contrast abstacles faced by senior administrators in Indonesian higher education institutions in term of the administrators' gender. Population and sample for this research were all structural administrators in all Indonesian state higher education institutions, which include: Rectors, Vice Rectors, Deans, Head of Centers, and Head of Burreaus. This research was based on findings from earlier research which found out that there was a different kind of obstacles faced by male and female while pursuing their career. Furthermore, based on the findings, the researchers indicate that female were faced with more obstacle than males (Arif, 1993). However, there is no research focusing on obstacles faced by administrators in higher education institutions. It is important to conduct such research since higher education institutions are assumed as center of innovations. As a consequence, higher education institution will be likely perceived to allow new issues to be implemented, including accommodating the increasing number of professional women. In the last two decades, there is an increasing of l0% of women in administrative positions (Center of Statistical Burreau, 1993). As a center of innovation, therefore, we hope to see this figure reflected in higher education institutions personnel. In fact, the figure was 6% (Koswara, 1991). Therefore it is important to analyze reasons underlying this situation, especially in relation to obstacles faced.
