It is generally understood that very rapid change is the characteristic of the day. It involves all sectors of life, i.e. economic, science and technology, social, political and culture. Several terminologies have been used to explain such changes such as modernization, industrialization and lately globalization. Each terminology has its uniqueness due to the type of change which took place at the time. In this article, globalization is discussed including Some of its unique traits such as footloose, borderless, and the compression of the world and the intensification of consciousness of the world as a whole. Further, this process is examined in its relationships to the development of higher education in Indonesia. The promotion and development of academic culture is of utmost important. Which includes education and learning teaching research and dedication to society.
