Levitan is research professor of economics and director of the Center for Social Policy Studies at The George Washington University. He is the author of a number of books on the subject of work in America, including, most recently, Beyond the Safety Net: Reviving the Promise of Opportunity in America. Dr. Levitan has been a consultant to various U.S. Government agancies and to private organizations, and he served as chairperson of the National Commission on Employment and Unemployment Statistics.
