In a careful analysis of the global food equation, a well-known agricultural economist concludes that resources are probably available to permit increasing per capita food production in the developing countries, particularly if more efficient food pricing policies are adopted by the governments of these countries. D. Gale Johnson is professor of economics and chairman of the Department of Economics at the University of Chicago, with which he has been associated since 1944. He has served as a consultant and adviser to private and public sector organizations, including the Office of the President's Special Representative for Trade Negotiations, the Agency for International Development, the U.S. Council on International Economic Policy, and the President's Food and Nutrition Study.
