Isi artikelAlthough economic pressures will likely result in the continuing transfer of land and water out of agriculture during the next two decades, the rate at which these transfers take place should decline, says the author. Therefore, there is little likelihood of serious food and resource scarcity occurring in the near future. Kenneth R. Farrell is director of the Food and Agricultural Policy Program with Resources for the Future, an independent organization devoted to research on the development, conservation, and use of natural resources and on the quality of the environment. This article is based on a speech presented by Dr. Farell at a 1983 symposium and published as a chapter in the book Agriculture in the Twenty-First Century.
