Abstract
For most of this century, business has been influenced by the concepts and processes of management defined and described by such men as Max Weber, Frederick W. Taylor, Henry Ford, and George W. Terry. These men all seem to agree with the notion that management is the process of attaining goals and objectives through influencing the work and activities of others. For them, management depends, in fact, on manipulation and control. As Ivancevich, Donnelly, and Gibson put it, "Usually we think of management as the process of managing. The process of management involves planning, organizing, motivating, commanding, and controlling. "Although such an approach to management has been successful in the past, it is also directly responsible for much of the chaos and many of the problems that exist today
