He explains that the recession probably could have been predicted given the need to reduce inflation through monetary restraints. A prominent international economist, Gottfried Haberler is professor of econimics emeritus at Harvard University, with which he has been associated since 1931, and a resident scholar at the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research. A native of Austria, Dr. Haberler taught economics and statistics at the University of Vienna, and he has been a consultant to several organizations, including the League of Nations and the Federal Reserve System.
