Schechter has been deputy director of the Department of Economic Research and director of the Office of Housing and Monetary Policy with the AFL-CIO since 1974. He earlier held positions with a number of U.S. Government agencies, including the Department of Commerce, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the Library of Congress.
