Isi artikelPointing out that the traditional heavy-industry stronghold for trade unionism in the United States has been eroding, the author suggests that if unions are to flurish in the future, they must make an effort to organize new groups of workers, including women and minorities, appeal to new types of worker values, and cooperate more effectively with other unions internationally. A specialist in labor and employment law, Charles B. Craver is a professor of law at the University of Illinois. He is the author of Employment Discrimination Law and Labor Relations Law in the Public Sector, as well as numerous articles on labor relations law. This article, from a recent issue of The Futurist, is based on "The Vitality of the American Labor Movement in the Twenty-First Century," published in the University of Illinois Law Review.
