Isi artikelPublic awareness of what organic agriculture means and consumer demand for organic crops is very low in Indonesia. NGOs like Pesticids Action Network (PAN) Indonesia and Sintesa in North Sumatra, are trying to air the debate about agriculture in public whilst organising practical projects with farmers’ groups. Some efforts towards a more efficient use of fertilizers have been responded by some researchers in biotechnology as shown by their success in developing a biofertilizer and biopesticides that could increase the efficient use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. The development of biofertilizer and biopesticide commercially seems to be quite prospective as it offers some benefits to consumers, environment, and national economy as well. Nowadays an efficient use of chemical products and back to organic agriculture is a must.
