Isi artikel
Agricultural sector in Indonesia is still considered to be the important sector in the Indonesia economy. Even though its contribution to the national economy is only 14%, agricultural sector contributes to provide 49% labor force and supply main stapple food for Indonesia. Today, in addressing the AFTA issues, the position of agricultural sector as well as farmers in Indonesia is considered to be very hard because of the following reasons. First, farm income as well as income per-capita of Indonesian is relatifly low. Second, agricultural sector in Indonesia falls in the structural trap where 60% of food production is from Java Island which is only 7% of the total land of Indonesia. Third, agricultural activities are still managed by traditional technique using traditional equipment. In addition of low in productivity, they are also low in quality. Consequently they are difficult to compete with other products from outside countries.
