Isi artikel
Sean O'Casey's Dublin Trilogy, which comprises The Shadow of a Gunman (1923), Juno and the Paycock (1924), and The Plough and the Stars (1926), is known for its critique of fervent Irish nationalism, revealing how the War of Independence, the Civil War, and the Easter Rising, respectively, produced harsh effects on the poor and suffering in the Dublin tenements. Interestingly, since "his theatre self-consciously sought to demythologize Irish nationalism" (Murray 94), O'Casey's theatrical protest against radical nationalism found a resonance particularly during the 1970s and 80s when the paramilitary violence in Northern Ireland erupted.
