Broadcasting plays one of the most important roles in the modern society. Being a cheap media, it is affordable to a large part of the public. Moreover, it is available even to those with limited literacy because of its visual and auditory nature. As a result, broadcasting becomes a source of information to most people, affecting the opinions of the public, and is essential to the sound democracy. The most critical issue with regard to broadcasting is, of course, its freedom and independence as the media. From this point of view, the statutory framework over broadcasting needs to be examined. However, it should be borne in mind that the trust in broadcasting rests, in the end, on the trust in its providers, the broadcasting corporations. This means that the governance of broadcasting corporation matters: whether or not the broadcasting is a fair, independent and decent one is attributable to how good governance the broadcasting corporations have. |
