Isi artikelOne of America's leading bankers suggests that the terminology used to describe the U.S. economy, which was invented in the industrial age, is no longer adequate or relevant for measuring economic phenomena of a global economy in the information age. In particular, he points out that no one has found a way to measure the amount of kn owledge capital that is accumulating in the way that tangible capital can be measured. Walter B. Wriston recently retired as chairman and chief executive officer of Citicorp, after a 38-year career with that international financial organization. Mr. Wriston has served as a member of a number of U.S. Governement commissions and advisory groups, and he currently chairs the President's Economic Policy Advisory Board. This article was originally prepared as a speech given to the Executive Club in May 1985.
