Isi artikel
Emphasizing the importance of the family farm in agriculture around the world, a former U.S. Secretary of Agriculture presents his views on how agricultural productivity in less developed countries can be increased through creation of satellite farming systems based on cooperative efforts by corporate agribusiness and smallholders. A well-known lawyer, government official, and corporation executive, Orville L. Freeman headed the U.S. Department of Agriculture from 1961 to 1968, after serving for six years as Governor of the State of Minnesota. He later was president of EDP Technology International and chairman of Business International Corporation. Mr. Freeman, who currently practices law in Washington, D.C., also serves as chairman of the Joint Agricultural Consultative Corporation, the U.S. Delegation of the India-U.S. Business COuncil, and the U.S.-Nigerian Joint Agricultural Consultative Committee. This article is based on a book chapter titled "The Family Farm: A Success Story With Global Implications."
