The Indonesian economy has suffered a shock in the past few months. his started with the weakening of the rupiah exchange rate towards US dollar in the second week of July 1997 as a result of Thailand's financial crisis. If studied closely, it seems that a very tight correlation exists between the monetary fluctuation in Indonesia and the turbulence suffered by other South East Asian countries, especially if we examine the events from phase to phase.
