The inflation rate in the first six months of 1997 was successfully curbed to 2.54% compared to that for the same period last year which was 4.03%. During the same period, the monetary and banking sector development seems to have been more expansive. The most serious matter arising in this sector during the period of January-June 1997 was the concern of many parties over the high growth of credit channelled into property business, which carried a high risk of becopming problem loans.
