Isi artikelAs can be seen from the previous edition of Economic Review, during the first six months of 1997 the Indonesian economy progressed well with a growth rate estimated as high, which was built on the 7.98% economic growth rate in 1996. The inflation rate in the first six months of 1997 was successfully curbed to 2.54% compared to that for the same period last year which was 4.03%. During the same period, the monetary and banking sector development seems to have been more expansive. The most serious matter arising in this sector during the period of January-June 1997 was the concern of many parties over the high growth of credit channelled into property business, which carried a high risk of becopming problem loans.
