In this article a prominent developing nation economist defines a list of "core" basic needs and provides broad general estimates of the cost of meeting those needs. He estimates that an annual additional investment of $20,000 million over a 20-year period might be required, and that the cost of annual recurrent expenditures would double or triple this amount.
