Isi artikel
The Uruguay Round of multilateral trade negotiations represents a "historical turning point" in which the major trading nations either can reach agreement on a more rational trade regime for agriculture or slide into an era of increased protection, according to a prominent agricultural economist. G. Edward Schuh is director of Agriculture and Rural Development at the World Bank. Before accepting that position three years ago, he was head of the Department of Agriculture and Applied Economics at the University of Minnesota. This article is excerpted from a seminar presentation given by Dr. Schuh in Genevs, Switzerland, earlier this year. It has been updeted by the autghor. The article represents the author's view alone and does not necessarily represent the view of the World Bank, implied or otherwise.
