Curent U.S. positions concerning important telecommunications matters that may affect many nations, as well as the role that telecommunications can play in spurring economic development, are discussed in this interview. The interview was conducted by Richard Riecken, senior editor of Economic Impact. As the first U.S. Coordinator and Director for international Communications and Information Policy, Diana Lady Dougan is responsible for international communications policy formulation, coordination and oversight within the U.S. government. Ambassador Dougan, who has worked extensively in telecommunications over 1 20-year period, earlier served as the presidentially appointed director of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting from 1976 until the early 1980s.
