The distinction he achieved as an economist at the U.S. Department of state in the 1960s contributed to his selection as Assistant for International Economic Affairs, 1969-1971, to then Presidential Adviser Henry Kissinger. Since then, a senior fellow at Brookings Institution research center in Washington, Dr. Bergsten adds the threat of investment wars to the already long list os economic issues that require global attention-nothing, however, that in his instance there is still time for constructive approaches to succeed.
