The authors explain how entrepreneur and researchers in industrialized countries have designed an impressive variety of products that integrate advanced Western technology with technoogies appropriate to the requirements of developing countries, and how these products can benefit host economies. Henry R. Norman is executive director of Volunteers in Technical Assistance (VITA, Inc.), a U.S. organization that promotes research in and developmet of technology for the Third World. He previously served as field director for a rural health management team in Afganishtan and as director of U.S. Peace Corps in Guinea. Patricia Blair is a writer and consultant on Third World development.
