Isi artikel
The authors examine in detail whether and to what extent such factors as changing land-use patterns, a recent slowing in the number of new technological breakthroughs associated with higher productivity, and rising costs of energy and water may affect U.S. agriculture. While they see no cause for alarm, they recommend that a more comprehensive research program to be undertaken to minimize possible future problems. Sandra S. Batie is associate professor of agricultural economics at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, where she has been a member of the faculty since 1973. Robert G. Healy has been an economist with The Conservation Foundation-a Washington D.C., environmental research organization-since 1975. This article is drawn from the book The Future of American Agriculture As a Strategic Resouce, which was edited by Dr. atie and Dr. Healy.
