Isi artikel
As concern mounted over energy supplies during the 1970s, the prestigious National Research Council of the U.S. NationalAcademy of Sciences undertook a massively detailed analysis of all aspects of the U.S. energy situation. The final report, "Energy in Transition: 1985-2010," was delivered to the Department of Energy by Philip Handler, chairman of the council, in December 1979. An important part of the report consisted of an analysis of U.S. energy supply prospects to the year 2010, prepared by experts drawn from many segments of the U.S. energy industry. This article, extracted from the report of the Oil and Gas Resource Group, provides extensive factual data on U.S. oil and gas reserves and potential resources, distribution and transport facilities, and the prospects for shale oil an dsynthetic fuels. The group believes that if the United States adopts a "national commitment" to produce as much oil as possible, U.S. oil imports will be rapidly reduced after the turn of the century.
