Isi artikel
Although what are called capitalist economy systems have performed well on most counts over the years, they are not widely liked, acknowledges the author, who believes this attitude stems from the fact that capitalism is "too complex to be readily understood" even by those who have studied some economics. Describing the continued importance of the price, profit, and investment functions of "capitalism," he expresses confidence that it will continue to survive but suggests some further reforms to help the system "operate more equitably and leave it less open to attack than at present." Born in Canada, Dr. Reynolds earned his doctorate in economics at Harvard University in 1936 and has been a member of the Yale University faculty since 1945. Dr. Reynolds is the author of one of the most widely read college economics textbooks, Economics: A General Introduction.
