Abstract
This paper is concerned with the question of whether firms with majority foreign ownership prefer equity rather than debt, long-term rather than shortterm debt, and internal rather than external source of financing, in order to examine the corporate governance practices of foreign-owned enterprises in Indonesia. The findings are fairly interesting in which foreign-owned enterprises tend to be more prudent in their financing policies than local ones. Meanwhile, the performance of foreign-owned firms are predicted to be better than local firms. Accordingly, this paper considers that foreign-owned enterprises are less fragile than local firm due to the 1997 financial crisis. These findings are important to shed light on the governance practices of the firms in Indonesia, where Asian crisis hit severely.
