A native of Germanhy, the author is an economist and an internationally konwn expert in the energy field. He is a fellow with Resources for the Future, a nonprofit organization in Washington, on whose staff he has served since 1966. He has written frequently on his subject and is perhaps best known as the principal author of Energy in the World Economy (1971). Mr. Darmstadter has had advisory and consulting responsibilities with the National Academy of Sciences and several U.S. government agencies.
