Isi artikel
In view of the stubborn combination of inflation with recession in recent years, maintaining noninflationary growth with high employmnet has become the central economic problem of the times. Aspects of the inflation dilemma are considered in the following six articles. The first article, drawn from a report by a group of eight prominent economists, identifies key policy issues and recommends alternative startegies. The report, made at the request of the Organization for Economic Coopeartion and Development, was completed in mid-1977. Members of OECD study group attribute the recent difficulties to a complex of factors and recommend policies that would lead to "moderate but sustained expansion." Chairman of the group was Paul McCracken, professor at the UNiversity of Michigan, and a former chairman of the U.S. Council of Economic Advisers. Other members included Guido Carli, Confindustria; Herbert Giersch, Kiel University; Atilla Karaosmanoglu, World Bank; Ryutaro Komiya, University of Tokyo; Assar Lindbeck, Stockholm University; Robert Marjolin, European Economic Community; and Robin Matthews, Cambridge University. Stephen Marris was staff director.
