Isi artikelOne of the most interesting socioeconomic trends of the 1970s is the growing public interest in the obligations of business to society that extend beyond the tradisional corporate sphere. The subject has surfaced so recently, however, that there are still no hard-and fast guidelines by which the public and business itself can grade and measure such social action. This jointly authored article maps this difficult terrain and suggests a way forward. Both writers are associated with the renowned Graduate School of Business Administration at Harvard University-Dr. Bauer as a professor, Dr. Fenn as a lecturer. In addition, Dr. Bauer is the author of numerous books on business and on the Soviet Union, a former White ouse consultant on national goals, and a past president of the American Association for Public Opinion Research. Similarly, Dr. Fenn's extramural activities have included consultancy, authorship of many publications, and previoux government service as vice chairman of the U.S. Tarriff Commission.
