Isi artikel
The intellect, energy and humanitarian concern that have marked Barbara Ward's career are currently assisting in preparing the ground for Habitat, the U.N. Conference Exposition on HUman Settlements to be held in Vancouver in 1976-a meeting which is intended to emphasize practical solutions to the crucial questions posed by massive urban growth in many parts of the world. The dimensions of the issue are described by Miss Ward in this article which foreshadows the advance book on the conference due to be published in 1975 by the International Institute for Environmental Affairs, over which she presides in London. A native of York, England, Miss Ward was educated at the Sorbonne and at Oxford. She is the author of many books and articles which helped to establish the concept of the interdependence of nations, and she has been associated with The Economist for many years. Miss Ward's distinctions in the academic world include her appointment as Albert Schweitzer Profesor of International Development at Columbia University in New York, a position she held from 1968 until returning to London in 1973.
