Latin America is currently undergoing a dual transformation process: a process of political-institutional (re-)democratisation and an economic reform and modernisation process. However, country-specific difference are apparent, both in the time scale and the actual shape of the transformation processes. This is particularly noticeable in a comparison of developments in Chile with those in Argentina and Brazil.
