Isi artikelIn the industrialized countries, the buzzword globalization frequently conjures up apocryphal visions in which cheap labour competition from developing countries threatens to engulf entire industries, whilst private risk capital is increasingly attracted to low wage locations. In this vision, the only thing the industrialized countries would gain from globalization would be an increase in unemployment and there can be no doubt that labour market problems in many industrialized countries have much to do with the emergence of new efficient competitors (Nunnenkamp et al. 1994). By the same token, the developing countries now seem to be the winners from globalization, whilst it used to be feared that increasing integration of the world economy would put them on the loser's side.
