Abstract
Nowadays, there are few reasons why some people especially children and teenagers do not like to read novel. It might be novels are too thick, so they feel difficult to understand the story. Moreover, may be there are no pictures in novels, so they feel that novels are not interesting books to read. However, the writer loves to read novels and is interested in analyzing one of Fitzgerald’s books the title of which is The Great Gatsby. It is because the book is very interesting to read and has many symbols to discuss. What is symbol? The writer concludes that symbol is the trope to deliver the message or information to other people. The writer wants to analyze the symbol because from researches, the writer found out that each symbols has a very great meaning and Fitzgerald uses a lot of different symbols in order to deliver a message to the reader. That is why the writer wants to analyze the symbolism.
