Isi artikel
Visitors will have to look hard to see any interesting art in the Chinese capital. Museum shows are dull and the new foreign-galleries are anxious not to offend. One of the principal artistic events marking the Olympic games in beijing serves as a reminder of how slow the Communist Party can be to change, "Colours and Olympism", at the National Art Museum of China, includes large paintings hastily commissioned to show off the heroism of Chinese soldiers in response to the deadly earthquake in Sichuan Province in May. Mao Zedong, whose calligraphy adorns the museum entrance, would be proud that his efforts to make art serve politics have not been abadoned.
