Isi artikelThe Church consists of people of God. It is a spiritual and at the same time, a social institution. The latter implies that the Church can be studied from the point of view of structure, function and role in community life. A sociological perspective makes us realize that the Church, whether one likes it or not, has direct relation with the concrete life of human beings. It is therefore, the real needs of society that should get serious attention from the Church. In such a context, the Church is called to perform her role. The Church's function, which is latent, is manifested in society's life. In order for the Church to perform her role and function responsibility, the Church should have a correct understanding about herself. The involvement of the Church in societal life is not an additional duty, but is part and parcel of her nature as a communion of believers. It is in and through the involvement in societal life that the faith of believers is truly examined and challenged.
